Lo scopo principale di questo progetto è di facilitare l'uso di applicazioni obsolete non adattate a JACK, in un sistema che usa MIDI JACK. a2jmidid è un demone che implementa il bridge automatico. Per ogni porta del sequenziatore ALSA, si ottiene una porta MIDI JACK. Se la porta del sequenziatore ALSA è sia di input sia di output, si ottengono due porte MIDI JACK, una di input e una di output.
